Impact of Pesticides on Environment

The lecture highlights the impacts of chemical substances, which include pesticides and fertilizers, on the environment. It also discusses the use of pesticide use, present scenario and future trends related to the use of such chemicals.

Also in the deliberation, the use of chemicals including various fertilizers and pesticides, the Indian picture is discussed.

The use of pesticides and the likes damage the flora and fauna which is a problem of concern has also been underlined.

Finally, the future pest control methods are discussed.

Seed Dormancy & Seed Germination

The programme is about the phenomenon of seed dormancy and seed germination in plants. The expert talks about the various types of seed dormancy and the various factors responsible for it. Further, the expert discusses seed germination and its various types.

Relevant graphics and pictures are added to the programme to make it easily comprehensible for the students.

Structure of Angiosperm seed and Embryo

This programme is about the angiosperm seed and embryo. In the beginning the expert talk about the seed structure and embryo. The programme highlights the important parts of seeds and their functions. Further the expert describes the types of endosperm and types of classifications are also talked about in the programme.

Towards the end, the process of development of seeds and dispersal of seeds are discussed. The programme ends with explanation of causes of dormancy and germination inhibitors. 

Numerical taxonomy

Numerical taxonomy is the use of numerical methods in the taxonomic treatment of biological world. This method owes its origin to French naturalist Adanson and was later developed by Sokal and Sneath to its present form. The method, which claims to be far less subjective than the intuitive methods used before its advancement advocates use of as many characters in taxonomic studies as possible and determination of similarity (or difference) between the taxa using numerical calculations involving use of various statistical coefficients and computer algorithms.
