Dr Salima Jan has been working as Research Scientist in the centre for last 20 years. She has done M.A, M.Phil and Ph.D in Sociology from Aligarh Muslim University, her area of interest is education and new communication technologies, media sociology and Women’s Studies. Salima has done various research studies on different aspects of educational television programmes, need assessment studies, audience profile for UGC’s Vyas Channel, use of media by the students, new communication technologies and educational disparities etc. She has also conducted formative research for more than 100 educational television programmes. She has six publications to her credit which includes a book “Forgotten Identities – the story of artisan women in Kashmir”. As part of the consultancy, she did two national projects for Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on “Coverage of Gender Issues in Print Media” and Govt. Information Delivery Mechanism and the Technological Development. She has Coordinated various student training workshops for the Media Education Research Centre and Directorate of Lifelong Learning. She also coordinated the two year collaborative project with BBC World Service Trust, MERC and EMMRC on Social Affairs Reporting in Kashmir. Salima is the academic coordinator of virtual classroom operations at EMMRC. She is the life member of the All India Sociological Society.
