Biological Databases

Subject Expert:

The talk of this lecture is to understand some basic concepts related to biological databases.

In this lecture the expert discussed the ways how biology is entering a new era in which data are being generated.

The expert elucidates that databases are taking the role of scientific literature in distributing the information to the community and the Information contained in biological databases includes gene function, structure, localization (which includes both cellular and chromosomal), clinical effects of mutations as well as similarities of biological sequences and structures.

In the end, the expert added that the development of databases to handle the vast amount of molecular biological data is thus a fundamental task of bioinformatics.
